Cancer claims life
of photographer, 33

Tara McParland, a photographer for the Florida Times-Union of Jacksonville, Fla., who documented her three-year battle with breast cancer, died 5 November 2000. She was 33.

Colleague and close friend Dennis Hamilton Jr. said McParland believed it would be difficult to record the ordeal but also knew she could learn and grow through the process, according to a Times-Union article.

In her series detailing the triumph and tragedy of her struggle, McParland wrote: "Breast cancer had stripped away the certainties of my life."
