Nudes
The human body has fascinated artists from the beginning of time, inspiring the creation of images that were considered art by some and obscenity by others. There exists little in the way of a universal standard of where the dividing line lies, prompting U.S. Supreme Court Justice William Brennan to say he couldn't define obscenity, only that "I know it when I see it."
The purpose of this page, therefore, is not to provide books that will spark a consensus over what is a purely aesthetic depiction of the human body, as sexuality, eroticism and art are at times inexorably intertwined. Rather, Fotophile.com hopes to provide several starting points for visitors to explore the broad selection of photographic work in print. (If you are offended by any of the material within, please understand that you are free to leave, but by no means will we rein in the rights and privileges of others to browse our pages.)
This list is by no means an attempt at a complete overview of nude and erotic photography, even if we all shared the bandwidth to view such a catalogue. If there are any books you would like to see here, or are looking for a particular suggestion, please feel free to e-mail books@fotophile.com.
All the selections are available for purchase through a partnership with Amazon.com.
